There is no denying that Microsoft is the world leader in operating systems. But what you may not know is that Microsoft also makes most of the tools and libraries used to write programs. The benefits of using programs that run in the native Microsoft operating environment are incredible. Programs run faster and more efficiently when their every command doesn't have to be translated again and again to your computer before it can take action.

Macromedia is a prime example of this inefficiency. Because any kid with a keyboard can write macromedia programs, there have been a lot of these imitators cropping up lately. What they aren't telling you is that macromedia based programs first require that the macromedia engine be loaded on every computer just so the operating system can understand what the program is tying to do. Ironically, through all the bragging of how great Macromedia is, the engine itself is dependent on the very Microsoft libraries it attempts to replace, making it nothing more than a processor intensive glorified translator that has to turn an amateurish babbling of code into something useable by the operating system. All things considered, Microsoft's video stream requires only a fraction of the bandwidth of a Macromedia stream at a similar image quality. So you're either going several times faster at a set bit rate or getting many more connections on a single computer.

Another great benefit of being a Microsoft developer using Microsoft's libraries, objects and utilities is that whenever Microsoft does an update, our video chat software also gets updated in effect. This way not only are we constantly improving on our products, Microsoft is also improving on us as well. And as everyone who has a had a piece of software quit working after an update knows, Microsoft doesn't make it their responsibility to keep non-Microsoft developers updated.
